The AnyCast dongle is a budget and easy-to-use device for wireless screen mirroring to your TV.
To find out how to connect AnyCast to TV, its set-up, pros and cons, and much more, keep reading.
What does AnyCast display dongle do?
AnyCast dongle lets you ‘mirror’ your Smartphone or Laptop screen on to the TV or projector, wirelessly.
(It basically supports screen mirroring in various formats viz. MiraCast, AirPlay, DLNA)
With screen mirroring you can scroll through photo gallery on your Smartphone while viewing the photos on the TV screen.
Or you can send WhatsApp messages on the TV screen while typing on your Smartphone.
Not sure whether to dump your non-smart TV for a smart one?
Again, AnyCast can help you here.
For a cost-effective price you can get home a tiny device that hides behind your TV with no long, messy cables.
It is easy to connect and set up. And is the perfect device to get a feel of using a smart TV (before actually getting one).
You can stream music, videos and much more from any free content providers like YouTube, Twitter, Instagram etc.
If you already own a smart TV but don’t like its unreliable mirroring ability, AnyCast can help here too.
Instead of watching online videos you can also use AnyCast to check e-mails, documents, notes, or to play games.
You can thus use the ‘source’ device (Smartphone, tablet etc.) as a remote control and the TV as the viewing screen.
How to connect AnyCast to your TV?
In the AnyCast box you get 2 main components to connect the device to the TV along with an instruction manual.
One is the AnyCast dongle and other is its connecting cable.
The AnyCast dongle goes into the TV’s HDMI port.
One end of the cable connects to the dongle, while the other end can be connected to either the TV’s USB port or a separate USB power plug.
If you’re using a separate power plug, make sure the electric switch is nearby. Or you might need to get an extension board to cover the distance.
(You can also use a power bank to power-up the display dongle.)
The connecting cable comes with a Wi-Fi signal receiver which kind-of just hangs there. (Or you can stick it behind the TV to hide it).
It is thanks to this Wi-Fi receiver that the dongle can turn your non-smart TV to smart without any LAN cable.
Once you’re done connecting the AnyCast device to your TV, turn the TV and the device ‘on’.
Select the right input source (the port to which AnyCast is connected) on your TV among HDMI 1, HDMI 2 etc.
The blank screen immediately changes to AnyCast set-up mode on the TV. (See the image below for an example).
How to connect AnyCast to your mobile, PC or tablet?
The AnyCast set-up screen may vary from the image but things like the QR code, SSID, PSK will always be there.
The easiest way to connect AnyCast to your Smartphone is via the EZMira App. (The EZMira App is the official App for the AnyCast dongle.)
Here’s are the steps to connect AnyCast to your mobile, PC or tablet via the EZMira App:
Step 1: Download EZMira App on your Android or iOS device
You can download the EZMira App on your Android or iOS device either by searching it in the App Store or by scanning the QR code on the AnyCast set-up screen.
(For Laptops and PCs, you can download the same from the Windows App Store.)
Step 2: Connect to the AnyCast device and your home internet router
For step 2, you have to establish 2 connections.
One, between the mobile and the AnyCast device. And second, between the AnyCast device and your home internet router.
There are two ways to do this.
- Connect to AnyCast device and home router via EZMira App
Tap ‘EZMira App’ inside the App and then click on ‘Scan QR code to connect wifi’.
Scan the QR code on the TV screen and select ‘done’ once your phone is connected to AnyCast device.
If all goes well, the Wi-Fi setup page pops up soon after.
Select your home router and enter your Wi-Fi’s password to complete the connection.
2. Connect to AnyCast device and home router via browser
If for some reason step A doesn’t work, you can try the browser method.
Here, you need to open your Smartphone’s Wi-Fi settings and select the AnyCast SSID from the available devices.
(You can find the AnyCast password on the TV screen. You can use this to connect the AnyCast device through the phone’s Wi-Fi settings.)
After the AnyCast device is connected successfully, open the browser on your phone.
Enter the IP address of AnyCast dongle as the URL 192.168.203.1 (given on the screen).
AnyCast settings page opens in the browser.
Among the various options, tap on the ‘internet’ setting.
From there, select your home router and enter your Wi-Fi password.
Step 3: Start mirroring
There are many ways you can start mirroring content on the TV (depending on which method you find more comfortable).
- Mirroring via the EZMira App
The EZMira App gives you 2 choices to watch content on the big screen—
You can mirror videos through the Miracast/ Chromecast option in the App.
Or you can tap the ‘Discover’ option to find compatible content for casting.
To use the Miracast option, just tap on the ‘connect’ you see in the EZMira App.
(Ensure your Android device’s MiraCast is turned ‘on’ before using the ‘connect’ option.
Android Miracast feature comes under various names like Miracast (in LG), SmartView (in Samsung), Wireless Display (in Xiaomi) and so on.)
Alternatively, if you find something in the Discover menu, just select the mirror icon in the top-right corner to start streaming.
- Mirroring via Google Home App
Instead of the EZMira App you can also use the Google Home App for connecting to AnyCast device.
First you need to connect your source device (e.g. Smartphone) and the AnyCast dongle to the same Wi-Fi network.
Next, open the Google Home App and tap on the ‘mirror device’ from the account page.
The AnyCast dongle will appear in the list of devices you can connect to.
- Mirroring via Airplay (iOS/ MacOS only)
For connecting Apple devices, whether an iphone or a Macbook, the process is very simple.
Just connect the iOS (or MacOS) device to AnyCast SSID from the Wi-Fi settings.
Then tap on the screen mirroring or Airplay option in the notification menu.
And select the AnyCast dongle to start screen mirroring.
